Ruling Expected in Prince Harry's Court Case Against Daily Mail Publisher
Prince Harry is set to learn the outcome of a legal case he and others have brought against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), the publisher of the British tabloid newspaper, the Daily Mail, at approximately 2pm BST (9am EDT).
The protracted case concerns allegations of unlawful information-gathering practices.
As reported by my colleague, these allegations include voicemail interception, landline tapping, and acquiring information through deception, commonly known as “blagging,” conducted by private investigators, freelance journalists, and ANL staff.
Prince Harry, also known as the Duke of Sussex, asserts that 14 articles published by ANL were founded on unlawful information-gathering methods.
Legal representatives for the Duke stated that the stories, published between 2001 and 2013,
“focus primarily and in a highly intrusive and damaging way, on the relationships which he formed, or rather tried to form, during those years prior to meeting his now wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex”.
ANL has categorically denied any wrongdoing and is contesting the claim, alongside cases brought by others including Elton John, his husband David Furnish, and campaigner Baroness Doreen Lawrence, whose son Stephen was murdered in a racially motivated attack in south London in 1993.
Prince Harry, who resides in the United States with his family, arrived in London alone on Monday to commence a week of engagements coinciding with the High Court ruling.
His wife Meghan, son Archie, aged 7, and daughter Lilibet, aged 5, did not accompany him due to security concerns. Updates on the developments will be provided throughout the day.
It remains unclear if Prince Harry will meet with his father, King Charles III, during this visit, as the King has scheduled engagements and audiences daily this week.
Reports indicate that Harry had hoped to reunite his children with their grandfather, aged 77, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, marking their first meeting in four years.
Harry last met King Charles in September at Clarence House, the King’s London residence, in their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024. This encounter was viewed as an initial step toward mending their relationship.
The Duke, who stepped back from royal duties six years ago, has made several allegations against the King, his stepmother Queen Camilla, his brother Prince William, the Prince of Wales, and sister-in-law Catherine, the Princess of Wales, through a Netflix documentary, interviews, and his autobiography Spare since relocating to California in 2020.
Harry severed ties with his family citing the “toxicity” of royal life and alleged racism directed at his wife. While he has expressed a desire to reconcile with his father, his relationship with his elder brother reportedly remains strained.

Buckingham Palace States Harry Cannot Stay at Royal Residence During UK Visit
The Duke of Sussex, who arrived in the UK on Monday, had intended to stay at his father’s official residence for one night during his London visit.
He is also scheduled to travel to Birmingham for a series of charitable engagements, including promoting the Invictus Games.
The lead-up to the trip has been overshadowed by controversy, with a palace spokesperson confirming on Sunday that the Duchess of Sussex and the couple’s children would not accompany him to London but might join him later during his visit to the West Midlands.
reported that the Duke and his family were initially offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace, which he declined on Saturday.
It is understood that palace officials believed Harry reversed his decision later that day, requesting to stay alone for a single night. Harry’s team explained that extensive security arrangements required time to organize, which contributed to the delay in acceptance.
However, palace officials considered it too late to arrange the necessary staffing. While the palace asserted that every effort was made to accommodate the Duke’s stay, their position emphasized that common courtesy necessitates a minimum notice period for staff preparation at royal residences. The palace indicated that such accommodation would be available to the Duke and his family in the future.
What particularly upset Harry’s team was the suggestion that the invitation had been withdrawn due to concerns that the King might be placed in an awkward position when the High Court judge issues a ruling in the case involving his youngest son on Tuesday.

Background on Legal Claims and Family Relations
The legal claims against ANL involve serious accusations of privacy violations, including phone hacking and deceptive information-gathering tactics. These allegations have been part of a broader scrutiny of tabloid practices in the UK.
Prince Harry’s legal action is part of a wider group of cases brought against the publisher by high-profile individuals, reflecting ongoing concerns about media conduct.
The Duke’s personal and public life has been marked by tension with the royal family since his relocation to the United States. His public statements and media projects have highlighted his grievances and experiences within the monarchy.
Concerns about security and privacy have influenced decisions regarding the presence of his family during this UK visit.

Meghan has publicly addressed issues of race within the royal family, including
“concerns and conversations about how dark Archie’s skin might be”.
This visit occurs amid ongoing efforts to navigate complex family dynamics and public scrutiny.
