Extended Detention for Suspect in Police Station Bombing

Detectives investigating the bomb explosion at a police station on the outskirts of Belfast have been granted an additional 36 hours to question a 66-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident.

A hijacked vehicle, equipped with a gas cylinder device, detonated outside Dunmurry Police Station on Saturday night.

The man was detained in the Dunmurry area on Tuesday and arrested under the Terrorism Act. He was subsequently taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

New IRA Claims Responsibility

The dissident republican group, New IRA, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a statement to The Irish News, the group stated that the bombing was intended as an attempt to kill police officers as they were leaving the building.

"It had been an attempt to kill police officers as they tried to leave the building."
