Mass Car Meet-Up Leads to Over 100 Offences in Aberdeen
Police have reported that more than 100 offences were identified following a large gathering of approximately 700 cars at an Asda car park in Aberdeen last month.
The offences included three instances of dangerous driving and 17 cases of careless driving, according to Police Scotland. Many drivers are being processed under anti-social behaviour legislation.
Insp Steve Manson described the event, which took place on 30 May on Garthdee Road, as involving "serious disorder." Two arrests were made at the time, and dozens of offences were initially recorded.
Additional offences came to light after police reviewed CCTV footage, social media posts, and dashcam videos related to the event.
"The serious disorder witnessed at the event last month will not be accepted.
Drivers selfishly put others at risk by carrying out dangerous manoeuvres within the car park."
Insp Manson further explained that officers stopped each vehicle as it exited the car park, identifying drivers and recording interactions with body-worn cameras.
"While they may have thought there would be no repercussions a team of officers have reviewed footage of the event and identified the vehicles involved in the more serious offences."
He also noted that the majority of drivers at the meet-up behaved appropriately.
