Tribute to Sister Genevieve
A nun who died after being struck by a car will be remembered for her "great kindness to everyone" she encountered, as well as her "love of life," according to a tribute from her fellow sisters.
Sister Genevieve, aged 87, formerly known as Anne Clanchy, passed away following the incident on Stow Park Avenue, Newport, in February.
She was a member of the Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy in Newport for 67 years, as noted in a statement from the convent.
"She will be remembered for her great kindness to everyone that she met, her interest in them and their lives, her love of life and her quiet, deep faith,"
"Sister Genevieve's sudden death is a shock to the sisters and all those who knew her."
Life and Career
Sister Genevieve taught in schools throughout England and previously served as headteacher of St Winifred's School in south London.
During her retirement, she lived in Chatham, Kent, before relocating to Devizes in Wiltshire. The convent stated that she "enjoyed being part of so many parish activities, making many friends" in Devizes.
In recent years, she resided in Newport and remained active by engaging with local groups.

Details of the Incident
Gwent Police reported that officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian and a car at approximately 15:55 GMT on 24 February.
The pedestrian, Sister Genevieve, was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead.
