Murder Investigation Initiated After Fatal Attack in East Belfast
A murder investigation has been initiated following the death of a 51-year-old man after a break-in at an apartment building located on the Holywood Road in east Belfast.
Nicholas (Nicky) Gordon was assaulted when multiple intruders entered the apartment early on Tuesday morning.
He was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities arrested a 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm; both were subsequently released on bail.
Police were alerted to the assault at approximately 08:25 BST on Tuesday.
The incident itself is believed to have occurred around 04:45.
Detective Chief Inspector Duffie stated,
"A number of intruders entered the apartment building and attacked another male, before making off."
Emergency medical services were also present at the scene.
Police are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact them.
