Man Charged in Connection with Terrorism-Linked Attempted Murders
A man has appeared in court facing five counts of attempted murder related to terrorism following alleged anti-Muslim attacks in Edinburgh.
Five individuals sustained injuries at multiple locations across the city on Friday night.
Lewis Hawkes, aged 36, was additionally charged with assault and robbery, breach of the peace, and culpable and reckless conduct.
He appeared privately at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, where he made no plea and was remanded in custody.
Details of the Attacks
Two men were hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times following prayers at Broomhouse Mosque on Friday evening.
Three more people were assaulted on Leith Walk, and further attacks targeted a taxi and a petrol station.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Engagement
Police Scotland confirmed that a counter-terrorism investigation is ongoing.
The police have engaged with over 90 multi-faith organizations across Edinburgh in response to the incidents.
Officers have also reached out to affected businesses.
"An investigation led by counter-terror officers is ongoing,"a Police Scotland spokesperson said.
