Man Charged Following Barry Island Stabbing Incident

A man has appeared in court in connection with a stabbing incident at Barry Island that resulted in a 17-year-old boy requiring amputation of his lower leg.

Idris Ahmed, residing in Riverside, Cardiff, faces charges of wounding with intent and possession of a knife related to the event that took place on 25 May.

During the hearing at Cardiff magistrates on Saturday, Ahmed, who wore a grey sweatshirt, responded only to confirm his name and address.

Prosecutor Angharad Jones described the severity of the case, stating:

"This matter relates to a very serious incident, where the victim sustained a serious stab wound resulting in the amputation of his lower leg beneath the knee,"

She added that the offence occurred in a public area during a busy Bank Holiday, with hundreds of people present.

Defendant's Response and Next Steps

Defence counsel Ellis Worsley indicated that Ahmed denies involvement in the incident.

Ahmed was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before a judge at Cardiff Crown Court on 3 July.

Ongoing Investigation and Victim's Condition

South Wales Police continue to investigate the stabbing. The victim remains in critical care at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales.
