Crossbow Shooting Incident at University of Surrey

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in which a man in his 50s was shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey.

Surrey Police reported that officers responded to calls about a man being shot with a crossbow at Manor Park Student Village, Guildford, at approximately 10:00 BST on Thursday.

The suspect, a former student of the university, was apprehended and is currently in police custody.

The victim was transported to hospital and is reported to be in a "serious condition." A "significant emergency services presence" remains at the scene as the investigation continues.

Police Statement and Investigation

Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen provided an update on the situation:

"An investigation is now under way to establish the circumstances of the assault."

He confirmed that the suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident occurred.

"I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities.
We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses."
