Man Found Not Guilty of 1994 Murder of Frank Kerr

A 67-year-old man from south Armagh has been acquitted of the murder of Frank Kerr, a postal worker in Newry, who was killed during an IRA robbery at the city's postal sorting office in 1994.

The diplock non-jury murder trial of James Seamus Fox, residing on Carewamean Road in Jonesborough, commenced in January 2024. In addition to the murder charge, Fox faced allegations related to the robbery of £131,000, possession of firearms, and membership in a proscribed organisation.

At the time of the killing, Mr. Kerr was 54 years old, and the IRA was under a ceasefire.

The charges against Fox emerged in 2019 after police re-examined evidence connected to the killing. The prosecution cited DNA evidence linking Fox to the crime.
