Gary Glitter Charged with Historical Sexual Offences

Gary Glitter, the former singer whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with historical sexual offences dating back to 1978, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The charges include one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13, and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.

There is one alleged victim, with the offences said to have occurred between 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in Kensington.

Gadd is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 August.

The allegations were first reported to the Metropolitan Police on 9 January 2025, prompting an investigation into the circumstances.

Gadd was initially interviewed on 22 July 2025 in connection with the investigation.

The alleged victim is currently receiving support from specialist officers and has been informed of this update.

Gary Glitter is presently held at HMP Cannings Wood in Devon.

Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London, said of the charges: "This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse that took place between 1978 and 1981.
Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so."
