Fire at Recycling Plant Sparks Major Rail Disruption
A fire at a recycling plant in south London has led to significant rail disruption in the surrounding area, according to Network Rail.
Approximately 100 firefighters were dispatched to Landmann Way, Bermondsey, shortly after 17:30 BST. The London Fire Brigade reported that fifteen fire engines and turntable ladders were deployed to combat the blaze from above.

Social media posts have shown large plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Authorities have advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation.
Impact on Rail Services
Rail services in and out of London Bridge, including some operated by Southeastern and Thameslink, are expected to experience disruption until at least 22:30, Network Rail stated.
Fire Brigade Response
Station Commander Wayne Bloomfield, present at the scene, provided details on the ongoing efforts.
"Firefighters are working hard to extinguish a large amount of refuse at a recycling centre.
Due to the significant amount of smoke in the area, local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed."
He also advised residents to pour water on any loose embers near their properties and to "don't hesitate to call 999" if anything catches fire.
"This is likely to be a protracted incident, with crews remaining on scene into the morning," Bloomfield added.
Network Rail Statement
A spokesperson for Network Rail expressed apologies for the delays and provided further information on the situation.
"We apologise for the delay to your journey this evening. Due to a large fire in a recycling centre adjacent to the tracks in the New Cross area, there are severe delays on services in the south London area this evening and trains may be diverted to alternative London terminals."
They confirmed that the London Fire Brigade has declared a major incident and that trains are operating at reduced speeds in the affected area.
"Trains are subject to delay, diversion and cancellation this evening. Ticket acceptance is in place and you may use your ticket at no extra cost on London Underground services between London terminals," the spokesperson added.
Network Rail is collaborating closely with the London Fire Brigade and will provide updates to passengers as more information becomes available.
