Exclusion Zone Established Around Evolution Cove
An exclusion zone measuring 27 meters (88.5 feet) has been established around the Evolution Cove apartment block on Dunford Street in the Stonehouse area of Plymouth. This measure follows a recent assessment indicating a change and deterioration in the building's condition, raising concerns about its structural integrity.

Prohibition Order Issued by Fire and Rescue Service
Gary Walbridge, strategic director for adults health and communities at Plymouth City Council, reported that the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has issued a prohibition order. This order forbids anyone from entering the building due to ongoing concerns that residents were still accessing the premises despite the risks.
"What we understand from the faults are that, should they be realised, that could be a whole or partial building collapse,"
Walbridge explained the potential severity of the structural faults identified.
Building Vacated Following Structural Concerns
The Evolution Cove building was vacated on 20 March by Centrick, the management company responsible for the block. This action was taken after structural concerns emerged, specifically relating to cracking within the concrete frame in the car park area.
Impact on Nearby Residents and Voluntary Evacuations
The exclusion zone encompasses 13 neighbouring homes. On Friday evening, officers conducted door-to-door visits to inform residents about the situation and discuss voluntary evacuation options.
"We were door-knocking to the other residents, and we were having one-to-one conversations with them, updating them on the situation and the risks,"
Walbridge stated. Some residents accepted offers of temporary accommodation, others arranged their own housing, while some remained undecided.
Building Owners Collaborate with Council
The responsibility for repairing the building lies with its owners. According to Walbridge, they have been "very proactive" and are cooperating closely with the council to address the issues.
"Whilst we would of course recognise the disruption that this will cause, the duty around public safety has to be our overriding factor here,"
he added, emphasizing the priority of ensuring public safety despite the inconvenience caused.
