A landmark Kintyre hotel that has been closed for decades could be brought back into use after refurbishment plans were approved. Argyll and Bute Council has given planning permission for work at the former five-storey Keil Hotel, which is understood to have been unused since 1990.
The building, which opened as a hotel after World War 2 following use as a military hospital, is set to be expanded with a garden store, office, laundry and accommodation units, along with leisure facilities and an outdoor seating area. The council received one objection and two representations from the public before approving the proposals.
What did the council say about the site?
The council officer said in a handling report that the site occupies an elevated and visually prominent position on the western edge of Southend. The report also said the hotel remains the dominant feature within the site and has historically formed a landmark building visible from both land and sea.
