Woman Acquitted of Mother's Murder

A woman has been acquitted of murdering her elderly mother after stating she "couldn't go on" caring for her.

Stefania Glowka, 64, denied the charge of murdering her 86-year-old mother, Tamara Glowka, at their home in Devizes, Wiltshire, on Christmas Day 2025. However, she admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The defence contended that Stefania's depression severely impaired her capacity to make rational decisions on the night she strangled her mother with a belt before attempting to take her own life.

During the trial at Bristol Crown Court, which included psychiatric testimony, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Stefania is scheduled for sentencing at 14:00 BST.
