Emergency Landing in Loch Torridon
An air ambulance was compelled to execute an emergency landing in a Highland loch, as reported by accident investigators.
The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed that the crew conducted a "safe but unexpected" landing in Loch Torridon on Thursday, prompted by local weather conditions.
There was no patient aboard the helicopter at the time, and both the pilot and ambulance personnel, who were en route to an emergency in Applecross, remained safe and unharmed.
Details from the Air Accident Investigation Branch
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) characterized the EC145 helicopter's action as having "ditched" into the loch.
Following the incident, a doctor was dispatched to attend to the patient in Applecross and stayed with them until an ambulance arrived on the scene.
Statements from the Scottish Ambulance Service
"Whilst en route to an emergency call in Applecross, one of our helicopters had to make a safe but unexpected landing in Torridon due to local weather conditions.
There was no patient on board, and the pilot and SAS crew are safe and well."
Investigation Initiated
The AAIB has deployed a team to commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
