72-Year-Old Driver Dies 12 Days After Fatal Dumfries and Galloway Crash

Raymond Munro, 72, died 12 days after a collision on the A714 near Newton Stewart that also killed passenger Helen Flannighan. The driver of the other vehicle was treated in hospital. Police continue investigations.

Fatal Crash in Dumfries and Galloway Claims Second Life

A second fatality has been confirmed following a road traffic collision in Dumfries and Galloway earlier this month.

Raymond Munro, aged 72, passed away in hospital 12 days after the collision involving two vehicles on the A714 between Newton Stewart and Wigtown, near Nether Barr.

Munro was driving a Suzuki S-Cross when it collided with a Volkswagen Golf at approximately 09:35 on 3 June. His passenger, Helen Flannighan, aged 65, died at the scene of the accident.

Following the collision, Munro was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for medical treatment.

Ongoing Investigation and Statements

Sergeant Lindsey Tait expressed condolences and provided an update on the investigation.

"Our thoughts are with Raymond's family and friends. They have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.
Our thought also remain with Helen's family and friends.
Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who saw what happened or can assist with our investigation and has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch."
