Inquest Opens into Death of Missing Teenager Lilly Jones
Lilly Jones, aged 14, was reported missing from her home in Blaina, Blaenau Gwent, on June 20. Two days later, her body was discovered in the woodlands of Duffryn Park. An inquest opening has revealed that her preliminary cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with her murder and appeared in court last week. Emergency services were called to the scene in the woodlands, but Lilly was pronounced dead at the location.
Coroner Adjourns Inquest Amid Ongoing Investigation
Senior Gwent Coroner Caroline Saunders stated that due to the traumatic nature of Lilly's death, it was appropriate to hold an inquest. However, she adjourned the proceedings to a later date because the police investigation is still ongoing.
"Given the traumatic nature of the teenager's death it was appropriate to hold an inquest," said Senior Gwent Coroner Caroline Saunders.
A provisional date for the inquest has been set for April 6 next year.
Legal Proceedings and Upcoming Trial
The 14-year-old boy charged with Lilly's murder has not entered a plea and remains in custody. A further court hearing is scheduled for later this month, with a trial expected to take place in November. Due to legal restrictions, the boy cannot be named.
