Water Outage in Ballivor Amid Record Heat
Residents of Ballivor, a village in County Meath, Republic of Ireland, experienced a water outage lasting several days during the hottest week of the year. This disruption coincided with the island of Ireland recording its hottest May day on record earlier in the week.
Response and Planned Upgrades
Independent councillor Noel French reported that water supply has since been restored after water was delivered by tanker from nearby towns. He emphasized that residents deserve a reliable and adequate water supply.
The Irish water provider, Uisce Éireann, announced that upgrade works are scheduled for June, which will include enhancements to the water storage facilities in Ballivor.
In a statement, Uisce Éireann confirmed that it actively follows up on all reports of "no water calls," as reported by Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
Community Impact and Ongoing Issues
Aontú councillor Dave Boyne stated that parts of Ballivor had been without water since Sunday, leading to the closure of the local school. He described the water outages as a persistent problem in the area.
"The water has been off since Sunday, it might be back on in parts today, but it's just been mayhem for people,"
"People can't flush the toilet, take a shower, it's like living in a third world country."
Boyne added that his party colleagues had been distributing bottled water door to door to assist residents who may have difficulty leaving their homes.
