The victims, all Swiss nationals aged 28, 43, and 52, were hospitalized after the attack. Authorities confirmed that the suspect is a 31-year-old Swiss man who used a bladed weapon during the assault. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

An eyewitness employed in a nearby office building reported hearing a man shout

"Allahu Akbar"
—an Arabic phrase meaning "God is greatest"—at approximately 08:30 local time, immediately before the stabbing began.

At the time, a group of schoolchildren was passing through the area. Local media noted that a school teacher was observed standing in front of the children to shield them from harm.

Another eyewitness, a taxi driver, told the Zurich-based newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung that the assailant was seen walking around the station's underpass while attacking people.
