Grant Supports Expansion of Paint Recycling Enterprise
A social enterprise dedicated to helping people decorate their homes using recycled paint, repurposed furniture, and recycled materials has received a £400,000 National Lottery grant to expand its services.
Development director Nikki Digiovanni described the grant as a "game changer" for Remo, an organization based in March, Cambridgeshire, which was established approximately 20 years ago.
"The funding will allow me to employ more staff [and] it will mean we can be open seven days a week," Digiovanni said.
The grant funds will be distributed to Remo over a five-year period.

Background and Motivation
Digiovanni shared her personal experience of living in temporary housing during her youth, where she was not permitted to decorate her residence. Upon moving to a permanent home, she was eager to start painting.
"The paint, even then, was so expensive," she recalled. "I had to get an extra Saturday job to be able to afford to freshen up my home."
This experience inspired the creation of the paint recycling enterprise, aiming to make decorating more affordable for others.

Community Engagement
Remo's facility includes a woodwork shop, a pottery studio, and a digital lounge, enhancing its community offerings alongside the recycled paint initiative.
