Unexpected Guest at Bolney Comedy Night

The audience at a village hall comedy night experienced an unexpected delight when Romesh Ranganathan appeared on stage as a surprise guest performer.

Ranganathan, who hails from Crawley, made an unannounced appearance on Saturday evening at Rawson Hall in Bolney.

Helen Mullany, the manager of the hall located in the Sussex village, explained that the comedy event was scheduled immediately following the Bolney Horticultural Society's Spring Show.

Prior to the event, Mullany hinted to attendees about the presence of a "huge name" but withheld the identity until the last moment.

She allowed anyone who contacted her privately to be informed, which contributed to the event selling out quickly with 192 attendees.

About Romesh Ranganathan

Ranganathan is known as the host of television shows such as The Ranganation and The Weakest Link. In addition to his roles as an actor and writer, he is also a co-owner of a bakery.

After performing at Rawson Hall, Ranganathan proceeded to deliver another set in Brighton.

Organiser's Reflections

Mullany shared her enthusiasm on Facebook:

"So much fun last night at the Rawson hall. Romesh Ranganathan, thank you so much for venturing out of Crawley and giving us some stick!!"

She also spoke to BBC Radio Sussex about the event's lineup and the surprise guest:

"We already had a line-up of four 'excellent' comedians, and then I heard last week we had an 'extra special' guest.
We sent that little rumour round - that Romesh was coming over.
We were allowed to tell people but we weren't allowed to put it straight out, and the tickets clearly flew."

Mullany described the evening as "just brilliant" and added:

"He came to us and gave us a suitable amount of stick about living in Bolney, but we didn't mind, because he was very, very funny and very nice as well to have around. We were very lucky."

Community Effort

Following the horticultural show, volunteers assisted Mullany in arranging chairs for the comedy night.

She commented on the community spirit:

"It's how a village hall works. We have a great team."
