About Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place from 23 July to 2 August. Over 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories will compete across 10 sports and six Para sports.

Designer Background and Achievements

Siobhan Mackenzie began her career as a tailoring technician during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. She subsequently designed Team Scotland's womenswear for the Gold Coast 2018 Games and was responsible for the full tartan design and opening ceremony outfits for Birmingham 2022.

Mackenzie was named Best New Scottish Designer in 2016. Her kilts have been worn by notable figures including Justin Bieber and Judy Murray.

Designer’s Vision and Craftsmanship

"I wanted to create something that respects tradition but also moves it forward, with bold colours and the introduction of metallic gold to reflect the drive and determination of the athletes who will wear it."

Mackenzie described the opportunity to create a tartan for the games' return to Glasgow as an "incredible honour."

The tartan has been produced entirely in Scotland, utilizing local textiles and manufacturers.

"It's also really important to me that everything is made in Scotland. From the weaving through to the final pieces,"
"This is a celebration of Scottish craftsmanship as much as it is of Team Scotland."

Use of the Tartan in Team Scotland’s Official Kit

The tartan will be prominently featured across Team Scotland's official kit for Glasgow 2026, including the ceremony outfits worn by athletes and team officials.

Glasgow’s Role as Host City

Glasgow stepped in to host the games after the original host, the state of Victoria in Australia, withdrew due to financial reasons.

Given the reduced timeframe for organization and budget constraints, the number of events has been reduced to 10, compared to 17 events held in the 2014 edition.
