Trump Announces New Tariffs Following Supreme Court Decision

US President Donald Trump declared that he will impose global tariffs of 15%, continuing his opposition to a recent Supreme Court ruling that invalidated his earlier import taxes.

On Friday, Trump stated that he intended to replace the tariffs struck down by the court with a 10% levy on all goods entering the United States.

However, on Saturday, he announced via Truth Social that this rate would be increased to the maximum permitted under a rarely used trade statute.

These tariffs are scheduled to take effect on Tuesday, 24 February, and can remain in place for approximately five months before the administration must seek approval from Congress.

Trump explained that his administration reached this decision after reviewing the court's ruling, which he described as:

"ridiculous, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American decision on Tariffs issued yesterday".
