Filming Resumes for Christmas Special
Executive producer Jane Tranter revealed that the audience response to the series has "exceeded even our most optimistic expectations".
Filming is set to restart for a three-part Christmas special of the acclaimed BBC TV show The Other Bennet Sister.
Series Background and Success
Inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the first series—primarily filmed in Wales—attracted 7.3 million UK viewers within its initial four weeks. The show also achieved significant success in the US and Canada, as well as on social media platforms.
Welsh actress and writer Ruth Jones portrayed the "iconic" Mrs Bennet, with Richard E Grant cast as her husband, Mr Bennet.
Based on Janice Hadlow's novel of the same name, the narrative centers on Mary Bennet, the seemingly unremarkable middle daughter of the Bennet family, as she navigates the societal pressures of Regency England.
Plot Developments and Christmas Special Focus
The final episode of the first series depicted Mary (Ella Bruccoleri) agreeing to marry Tom Hayward (Donal Finn). The upcoming Christmas special will explore "what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins," according to executive producer Jane Tranter.
The special is being produced by Cardiff-based Bad Wolf, with filming scheduled to resume this summer, primarily in Wales.
Producer and BBC Statements
"These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts," said Jane Tranter.
BBC Drama director Lindsay Salt commented, "It is incredibly exciting to see Mary Bennet cause such a sensation in 2026. We could not be happier to announce this new three-part Christmas gift to her millions of fans."
International Reach and Social Media Impact
In addition to its UK success, the first series attracted a broad audience through BritBox North America and accumulated 250 million media views across BBC accounts on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
