Rachel Zegler Nominated for Olivier Award
Rachel Zegler has received an Olivier Award nomination for her leading role in a production of Evita that featured her singing from the outdoor balcony of the London Palladium.
The American actress starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical last year and attracted significant attention for leaving the stage during each performance to sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" to the public gathered outside.
Other notable nominees for this year's Olivier Awards include Cate Blanchett, Bryan Cranston, Tom Hiddleston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Rosamund Pike, and Paapa Essiedu.
Paddington the Musical and a new production of Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods lead the nominations with 11 each.
11 nominations - Paddington the Musical, Into The Woods
6 nominations - Kenrex, All My Sons, Stereophonic

Zegler's Performance and Career Context
Zegler's acclaimed role in Jamie Lloyd's adaptation of Evita followed a challenging start to the year, during which she starred in a troubled live-action remake of Snow White.
The balcony performance stunt for Evita, where she sang nightly from the outdoor balcony, drew large crowds to the Palladium's concourse. This sparked debate about the fairness to ticket holders seated inside the theatre.
Other Notable Nominations
Bryan Cranston, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Paapa Essiedu are all nominated for their roles in a new production of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons.

Cate Blanchett is recognized for her role in Chekhov's The Seagull, Tom Hiddleston for Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, and Rosamund Pike for Suzie Miller's Inter Alia.
