Zverev Nears Maiden Grand Slam Triumph

Alexander Zverev, a nine-time clay-court title winner including four ATP 1000 events, is one win away from securing his first Grand Slam title after defeating Jakub Mensik in the French Open semi-finals.

The second seed advanced to his fourth major final and second at Roland Garros, having previously lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set final in 2024.

In a match that extended to a fourth set for only the second time this tournament, Zverev maintained his composure to win 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 against Mensik, a first-time Grand Slam semi-finalist and the 26th seed.

Zverev has been the favourite to claim the Coupe des Mousquetaires following the early exits of world number one Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic during the first week of the tournament.

He will face either 10th seed Flavio Cobolli or Matteo Arnaldi in the final scheduled for Sunday.

If victorious, the 29-year-old would become the seventh oldest player to win his first Grand Slam men's singles title in the Open era and the first German man to win a major since Michael Stich's Wimbledon victory in 1991.
