Zverev Advances to French Open Semi-Finals
World No. 2 Alexander Zverev advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open by defeating teenage sensation Rafael Jódar in the quarter-final with a scoreline of 7-6 (3), 6-1, 6-3.
Despite a strong start from Jódar, who is seeded 27th and has been a standout player during the clay-court season, Zverev managed to regain control and secure a straight-sets victory. Jódar had established an early 5-2 lead in the first set by showcasing his powerful and precise shotmaking, forcing Zverev far behind the baseline.
However, Zverev broke Jódar's serve at a critical moment to level the set and then dominated the remainder of the match with effective serving and aggressive play. This win marks another significant step for Zverev as he moves closer to capturing his first grand slam title.
The recent weeks at the French Open have seen numerous top players eliminated early, including Novak Djokovic, leaving Zverev as one of the leading contenders for the championship.
Jódar entered the tournament with an impressive 19-3 record on clay this season, including quarter-final appearances in Madrid and Rome, and led the ATP in clay-court wins before this grand slam run.
Upcoming Semi-Final Match
Zverev is set to face either Jakub Mensik, the 26th seed and 20 years old, or João Fonseca, the 28th seed and 19 years old, in the semi-final. Their quarter-final match will determine Zverev's next opponent.
