Williams' Knee Injury Clouds Wimbledon Doubles Prospects

Serena Williams' plans to partner with her older sister Venus Williams in the Wimbledon doubles event are uncertain following a knee injury sustained during her singles comeback match.

The Williams sisters, six-time doubles champions at the All England Club, were scheduled to reunite on a Grand Slam court for the first time since 2022 on Friday.

However, the 44-year-old Serena Williams may not be fit to compete after her right knee became swollen during her defeat by Australia's Maya Joint on Tuesday.

Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, did not address the media after the match. Wimbledon organizers confirmed she was "not able to undertake" her media responsibilities.

"Serena tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set and was therefore excused from her media obligations by the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams," said Williams' agent Jill Smoller.
"She left site that night unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week."

Williams Edged Out by Joint in Three-Set Singles Return

Despite the injury setback, Serena Williams engaged in an intense three-set match against Maya Joint, marking her singles return at Wimbledon.
