Serena Williams to Return to Tennis at Queen’s Club

Serena Williams has confirmed her return to professional tennis at the age of 44, set to compete next week at the Queen’s Club in London.

Williams will participate in the women’s doubles event at Queen’s, a WTA 500 tournament currently in its second edition, entering the draw with a wildcard. This marks her first competition since retiring from professional tennis at the US Open in 2022. Williams boasts an impressive career record, including 23 Grand Slam singles titles—the most in the women’s open era—and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles. She remains the only player to have achieved the career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles.

Williams Describes Queen’s Club as Ideal Venue for Return

In a statement regarding her comeback, Williams expressed enthusiasm about the venue and surface:

“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter. Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

Partnership with Victoria Mboko

Williams is set to partner with Victoria Mboko, a Canadian player currently ranked No. 9 in singles, for the doubles competition. Mboko shared her thoughts on Williams’ potential return during the French Open last week:

“I’m very happy. Me and Serena have stayed in touch, which is really, really nice, because I really look up to her. I mean, the fact that she even knows me is very exciting.
“I think for me I want to kind of let the moment for her. I feel like if she’s ready to come back on her own terms, then I feel like it’s up to her to announce that, but other than that, I can’t really -- I don’t really have much to say.”
