British Players Progress at Indian Wells

Sonay Kartal, ranked 54th in the world, and Jacob Fearnley both advanced to the second round at Indian Wells with straight-set victories.

The 24-year-old Kartal overcame Thailand's Lanlana Tararudee 6-4, 6-4, securing a spot against American 20th seed Emma Navarro in the next round.

Despite the straight-sets win, Kartal faced challenges, coming back from a 4-2 deficit in both sets to complete the match in one hour and 48 minutes.

Fearnley, the British men's number three, will meet American seventh seed Taylor Fritz after defeating Bosnia's Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-3.

However, Fran Jones, another British player, was defeated in straight sets by American qualifier Kayla Day, who won 6-3, 6-1. Day will face Poland's world number two Iga Swiatek in the following round.

Emma Raducanu is scheduled to begin her tournament on Friday, facing Russian Anastasia Zakharova in the second round.
