Sinner Reaches Wimbledon Semi-Finals for Third Time
Jannik Sinner has advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals for the third time in his career after a composed victory against Jan-Lennard Struff. The world number one took a significant step toward defending his Wimbledon title by defeating the German player in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Despite not yet displaying his peak form at the Championships, Sinner demonstrated decisiveness during critical moments to secure the win over Struff, who is ranked 74th globally. The Italian also showed resilience against the 30°C heat, a condition that previously affected his performance during a surprising second-round exit at this year's French Open.
"Thanks for reminding me! We worked a lot after Paris trying to understand what went wrong and prepared in the best possible way. It was a huge test today. I felt comfortable on the physical side, a good step forwards."
Sinner’s ability to manage the heat and maintain his composure was evident throughout the match. If Novak Djokovic defeats Felix Auger-Aliassime later on Tuesday, Sinner could face the 24-time Grand Slam champion in a semi-final rematch of last year’s Wimbledon.
Match Performance and Upcoming Challenges
Following a challenging opening match against Miomir Kecmanovic that extended to a deciding set, Sinner has not dropped a set in his subsequent four matches. However, the victories have not always been straightforward, and the top seed has yet to reach his best level at SW19.
Despite this, Sinner has elevated his play when necessary, securing crucial breaks to close out matches. Notably, the highest-ranked opponent he has faced so far is world number 48 Nuno Borges, leaving questions about how he will perform against higher-ranked players such as Djokovic or fourth seed Auger-Aliassime.
Details of the Match Against Struff
In the match against Struff, Sinner experienced a slow start, facing deuce in three consecutive service games. Meanwhile, the 6ft 4in German player held his serve comfortably. Nevertheless, Sinner maintained his composure and achieved the first break of serve to lead 6-5 before serving out the first set.
The second set saw both players exchange breaks. Struff had an opportunity to level the match when he reached a set point, but Sinner’s serve helped him escape the pressure and ultimately win the tie-break convincingly.
In the third set, Sinner remained relaxed and dominant, dropping only four points on his serve. After securing a decisive break at 4-3, he confidently served out the match to secure his place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.
