Hewett & Reid Claim Seventh Wimbledon Doubles Crown
British wheelchair tennis players Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have captured their seventh Wimbledon men's wheelchair doubles title as a team. They overcame a first-set deficit on Court One to defeat Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez and Japan's Tokito Oda with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
During the opening set, Fernandez and Oda broke Hewett and Reid's serve in all four of their service games. However, the British duo responded strongly by winning nine of the following ten games.
This impressive run gave Hewett and Reid a 3-0 lead in the deciding set, and they maintained their momentum to secure victory in a high-quality final. This triumph marks their 25th Grand Slam doubles title as a partnership.
Hewett, aged 28, and 34-year-old Reid also won the French Open doubles title in June. Meanwhile, Fernandez and Oda hold the other two Grand Slam doubles titles, having won the US Open and the Australian Open respectively.
Looking ahead, Hewett and Oda will face each other on Sunday in the men's wheelchair singles final at Wimbledon.
Oda is the top seed, defending champion, and is aiming for his third singles title at SW19. Hewett, seeded second, seeks to add to his previous singles victory at Wimbledon in 2024.
