Welcome to Roland-Garros 2026 – Day Nine
Salut à tous et bienvenue à Roland-Garros 2026 – neuvième jour!
And devinez quoi? It’s another banger absolu!
Matches on Chatrier and Lenglen Courts
We begin with an intriguing match on Chatrier, where Flavio Cobolli is starting to establish himself as a second-week staple. His all-round game, when on, is perfectly suited for the clay on which he was raised, combining a mix of vicious attack and tenacious defence. In Zach Svajda, he faces an opponent he knows he should beat, but also one who is in terrific form.
Opening on Lenglen, meanwhile, we will enjoy Anastasia Potapova, who may be starting to fulfill her potential. To reach this stage, she dismissed Coco Gauff, the defending champion. Potapova will face Anna Kalinskaya, who is looking to advance deep into a Grand Slam for the first time. This is the biggest match of both their lives.
All the more so given that waiting for them in the quarterfinals is either Diane Parry or Maja Chwalinska, who are second on Lenglen and also enjoying their best-ever major performances.
Afternoon Matches Featuring Keys and Upcoming Men’s Matches
As we move into the afternoon, Madison Keys, the 2025 Australian Open winner—a phrase that remains exciting to type—takes on Diana Shnaider. The winner of this match will face either Naomi Osaka or Aryna Sabalenka.
Following the women’s matches, the men take centre stage. All of them are seeking to capitalize on a rare opportunity, as the draw is now missing Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner. It is likely that Matteo Berrettini, Félix Auger-Aliassime, and Frances Tiafoe have spent time processing and reconciling the reality that their youthful dreams of winning a major title, once considered realistic and likely, may have seemed out of reach.
However, here they are, each facing Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Alejandro Tabilo, and Matteo Arnaldi respectively. They are balancing the freedom of opportunity against the weight of pressure as they aim to make themselves immortal in tennis history.
Chouette! On y va!
