Draper Advances to Face Djokovic at Indian Wells
Jack Draper will continue his Indian Wells title defence with a last-16 match against Novak Djokovic following a strong victory on Monday. Draper, the British number one, defeated Argentina's world number 20 Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 7-5.
Draper's opponent, Novak Djokovic, the world number three and 24-time Grand Slam champion, progressed by overcoming American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to maintain his campaign.
Norrie Upsets De Minaur to Reach Fourth Round
British number two Cameron Norrie also advanced to the fourth round by defeating the sixth seed, Australia's Alex de Minaur, with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-4. Norrie, seeded 27th in the men's draw, secured three breaks during the match and will next face Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata, who defeated Kazakhstan's 10th seed Alexander Bublik in three sets.
Draper's Performance and Injury Background
World number 14 Draper delivered a more commanding performance against Cerundolo compared to his second-round win over Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut. The 24-year-old, participating in only his second singles event since last year's US Open due to recovery from an arm injury, claimed the first set within 32 minutes after breaking Cerundolo's serve three times.
Cerundolo challenged Draper more in the second set by breaking his serve in the opening game. Cerundolo then had the opportunity to serve for the set at 5-4, but Draper responded strongly, winning the next three games and sealing the victory on his first match point.
Context of British Players' Performances
The wins by Draper and Norrie came a day after fellow Briton Emma Raducanu was defeated by American Amanda Anisimova, winning only two games in a 52-minute match.
