Wales Hooker Evan Lloyd Signs New Cardiff Contract

Wales hooker Evan Lloyd has committed his future to Cardiff by signing a new contract with the club.

The 24-year-old, hailing from Penarth, has joined fellow internationals Alex Mann and James Botham in securing fresh terms at the Arms Park.

Lloyd has featured in 39 matches for Cardiff and earned eight caps for Wales since making his international debut against France during the 2024 Six Nations.

Cardiff coach Corniel van Zyl expressed enthusiasm about Lloyd's potential, highlighting his physical attributes and versatility. Lloyd, originally a back-row forward, was part of Steve Tandy's squad for the autumn series but did not take the field.

"Evan is physically blessed and has a very high ceiling," said Van Zyl. "He is big man, he's well developed physically, is powerful and explosive, bringing an all-round game."

Currently sidelined due to injury, Lloyd has made 10 appearances for Cardiff this season while competing for the number two jersey alongside Liam Belcher and Dafydd Hughes.

Reflecting on his development, Lloyd stated:

"I feel like I have grown and developed a lot this season, both on and off the pitch. I have worked hard to improve my consistency and overall game, but I am also really keen to continue learning and developing.
As a club we want to keep pushing forward and I want to play my part in that. I want to help bring success to Cardiff and I am excited by what we can achieve together."

Cardiff are currently pursuing a place in the United Rugby Championship play-offs and will face Benetton in the last 16 of the Challenge Cup on Saturday.
