Ospreys Maintain Focus Amid Off-Field Uncertainty Ahead of Scarlets Derby
Ospreys secured a bonus-point victory against Scarlets in Llanelli on Boxing Day, concluding a challenging season in Bridgend.
Mark Jones' squad prepares for their final match at Brewery Field (17:30 BST) before relocating next season to Swansea's refurbished St Helen's stadium.
Bridgend has witnessed protests from Ospreys supporters opposing Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) plans to reduce the number of professional Welsh rugby teams.
The club's stability was further questioned when owners Y11 Sports & Media submitted, then withdrew, a bid for rival club Cardiff last month.
The WRU continues to pursue its proposal to consolidate Welsh professional rugby to three clubs, which could eventually force Ospreys and Scarlets to compete for the western Wales representation.
The rivalry between the two teams is set to persist into the 2026-27 season. Home assistant coach Richard Kelly emphasized that the off-field issues have not intensified the derby.
"I think there's enough edge in Ospreys-Scarlets derbies anyway. It's always a special occasion,"
"If anything, there's probably a little bit of understanding from both groups on the ground of what everyone's going through. I think everyone's in a similar boat really."

Ospreys supporters demonstrated against WRU plans prior to the January derby against Dragons.
On home turf, Ospreys have recorded six wins, one draw, and three losses this season. They have already defeated Cardiff and Dragons at Brewery Field and aim to complete a derby treble in a farewell match for Wales captain Jac Morgan.
"The atmosphere is great and it's good to have all the supporters so close to the field,"
"You can really hear them chanting and supporting us. It's great being able to hear them get behind us."
Victory over Scarlets would secure the Welsh Shield for Ospreys, surpassing Cardiff, who are currently vying for play-off positions.
Scarlets Motivated to Climb Welsh Rankings
Scarlets travel a short distance with the objective of overtaking Dragons to avoid finishing as Wales' lowest-ranked side.
While the occasion is significant for Ospreys, interim Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies anticipates his players will approach the match with strong enthusiasm.
"It's been interesting this week because it's the first time I've seen a few scuffles in training,"
"That's a good thing because it shows the boys are getting mentally prepared for what's ahead."
Concerns that this could be the final western derby have been alleviated, as the rivalry will continue next season, much to Davies' satisfaction.
"It brings that level of intensity, that passion, the identity. We are nearest and dearest rivals but we wouldn't be the same without each other,"
"It's great to have that level of competition. This game is really going to test us and it's a good challenge to have.
"I want to see every single player being competitive in every single moment.
"You can't afford to go to the Brewery Field and have players who aren't prepared to give everything they've got for the whole 80 minutes."

Tom Rogers scored a hat-trick for Wales against New Zealand in November.
Ospreys will bid farewell to captain Jac Morgan and full-back Jack Walsh, while Iestyn Hopkins replaces suspended wing Dan Kasende.
Kieran Hardy is selected over fellow Wales scrum-half Reuben Morgan Williams, with the forward pack unchanged from the recent defeat to Cardiff.
Scarlets welcome back Wales internationals Josh Macleod and Tom Rogers, both set to join Ospreys in the summer. Macleod returns from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for three matches, while lock Sam Lousi is absent due to a back issue. Jac Price starts alongside Max Douglas in the second row.
