Leicester Tigers established a strong lead early on with four tries, setting the stage for their fourth consecutive Premiership victory as they defeated Gloucester at Villa Park and retained the Slater Cup.
Wing players Will Wand and Gabriel Hamer-Webb both crossed the try line before Jamie Blamire scored twice in quick succession, putting the Tigers ahead 22-0 within the first 15 minutes.
Matias Alemanno responded for Gloucester, but Orlando Bailey secured a fifth try for Leicester just before halftime, solidifying their control of the match.
Gloucester showed improvement in the second half with tries from Will Joseph and Dian Bleuler, offering renewed hope. However, Harry Wells' late try sealed the Tigers' victory.
Match Progression and Key Moments
The Tigers dominated the early stages, with Wand opening the scoring after just two minutes. His agile run on the left wing saw him evade two defenders to score.
Hamer-Webb quickly added to the tally on the opposite wing, capitalizing on a well-timed pass from Billy Searle before Blamire's two tries secured a bonus point for Leicester within 16 minutes.
Ollie Chessum's strong presence at the lineout enabled Leicester's forwards to create opportunities, allowing Blamire to score his first try by powering over the line. He then completed his double following a skillful one-two with Hamish Watson.
Gloucester's Alemanno eventually scored from close range after sustained pressure on Leicester's line. Despite this, Gloucester's attacks were often hampered by inaccurate passing, and Leicester extended their lead just before halftime.
Wand initiated a move with another incisive run and contributed with an offload while on the ground, enabling Bailey to exploit a gap in Gloucester's defense and score, increasing the Tigers' lead to 24 points.
Second Half and Closing Stages
After the break, Gloucester started strongly, building phases and reducing the deficit when Caolan Englefield set up Joseph to score in the corner.
Leicester appeared to relax, but Seb Atkinson's efforts helped regain pressure, resulting in Bleuler, who replaced Val Rapava-Ruskin at halftime, scoring with eight minutes remaining.
Despite Gloucester's efforts, the outcome was decided when Harry Wells scored a converted try late in the game. Initially, there were concerns about a potential offside, but the try was allowed to stand, ending Gloucester's chances.
The victory means the Slater Cup, contested twice each season in honor of Ed Slater—who captained both clubs and is currently living with motor neurone disease—remains with the Tigers.
