Collins Aims to Secure Family's Future in WBC World Eliminator
Nathaniel Collins remains undefeated in 18 professional bouts as he prepares for a rematch against fellow unbeaten fighter Cristobal Lorente. The two boxers will face off in a WBC world eliminator match on Friday in Glasgow.
The initial encounter between Collins and Lorente ended in a draw at the Braehead Arena in October. The upcoming featherweight rematch is scheduled to take place at the Hydro Arena, located just a few miles from their previous venue.
The victor of this bout will earn the position of official mandatory challenger for the WBC featherweight title.
"It's an opportunity to change life for my family,"
said 29-year-old Collins, who shared that his wife is "ready to drop" with their second child.
"That's really what it's all about.
I want to go on [to a world title shot] and hopefully that means my wife doesn't need to work and my kids can go to nice schools."
Preparation and Strategy for the Rematch
Competing against Lorente once again in his home city, Collins has committed to adopting a smarter approach inside the ring. Reflecting on their previous fight, Collins acknowledged that he started strong but allowed Lorente to regain momentum, resulting in a split decision draw with scores of 115-113, 113-115, and 114-114.
"I let my heart control my head last time,"
Collins explained.
"I need to be focused. That's the difference for a world level fighter. You need to be able to use the skills you've got and stay switched on.
I've got a different buzz about me this time.
I'm feeling fresh and light - I wasn't feeling this way the last time."
