Tiger Woods Announces Treatment Following DUI Arrest

Tiger Woods has announced that he is "stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health" after being arrested in connection with a car crash.

The 50-year-old golf legend was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after his vehicle clipped a truck and rolled over in Florida on Friday. In addition to the DUI charge, Woods faces charges of property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

On Tuesday, Woods submitted a written plea of not guilty through his legal representatives. This followed the release of a police report earlier that day which detailed his behavior following the incident.

The report noted that Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket, an opioid medication used to treat severe pain. Officers observed him acting "lethargic and slow," sweating profusely, and having "extremely dilated" pupils.

Woods’ Statement on the Incident

Addressing the situation publicly for the first time, Woods posted on X:

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today.
"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."

Before the crash, Woods had not ruled out participating in next month’s Masters Tournament, although he has not competed in a major since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024.

"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally," Woods added.
"I appreciate your understanding and support and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
