Furyk to Lead US Ryder Cup Team in 2027

Jim Furyk will return as captain of the US Ryder Cup team for the 2027 event, which is scheduled to take place in Ireland. This marks Furyk's second time serving as captain, a role he previously held in 2018.

Earlier this month, Tiger Woods declined the captaincy following his arrest and charges related to driving under the influence and a car rollover incident in Florida.

Furyk, aged 55, led the US team during the 2018 Ryder Cup held in Paris, where Europe secured a commanding 17½-10½ victory. With this appointment, Furyk becomes only the fourth US captain in the modern era of the Ryder Cup, which began in 1979, to captain the team twice.

"The opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup team for a second time is a tremendous honour," Furyk said.

"I am committed to putting our players in the best position to succeed as we work to reclaim the cup on European soil."

The 2024 Ryder Cup is set to be held at Adare Manor in County Limerick from 17-19 September.

Background and Recent Ryder Cup History

Team USA has won the Ryder Cup nine times since the modern era began in 1979. Furyk has participated as a player in nine Ryder Cups, contributing to US victories in 1999 and 2008.

Despite his experience, Furyk faced criticism following the 2018 event, particularly regarding his four captain's picks, who collectively earned only two points from 12 matches at Le Golf National.

In the most recent Ryder Cup held in September at Bethpage in New York, Europe retained the trophy. This was notable as it marked the first time since the "Miracle of Medinah" in 2012 that either team won away from home. The US team was captained by Keegan Bradley during that competition.

Europe's Captain and Future Prospects

Luke Donald, who captained Europe to victory in the latest Ryder Cup, has been confirmed as the European captain for the 2027 edition as well. He will aim to become the first captain to win three consecutive Ryder Cups.

Additional include the announcement of record ticket prices for the European Ryder Cup and analyses of Donald's leadership, often described as exemplary.
