GB Wheelchair Curling Team Struggles Continue at Milan-Cortina Paralympics
Great Britain's wheelchair curling mixed team remains at the bottom of the standings at the Winter Paralympics in Milan-Cortina, having secured only one win in eight round-robin matches following defeats to China and Latvia on Wednesday.
The team's slim chances of advancing to the semi-finals were extinguished on Tuesday after a loss to Italy, coupled with China's victory over Latvia, which mathematically eliminated Great Britain from qualifying for the knockout stage.
Despite a strong start in the first six ends against China, the two-time defending champions, on Wednesday morning in Cortina, a poor seventh end allowed China to steal three points, extending their lead to 9-4 and effectively ending the match early.
In the evening session against Latvia, who had won two of their seven games, Great Britain conceded four points in the opening end but managed to stabilize their performance, trailing 5-4 after four ends.
Although the GB team found favorable positions during the game, they were unable to capitalize on critical shots at decisive moments. Latvia subsequently increased their lead with three points over the next two ends and maintained control to secure an 8-5 victory.
Great Britain's final match in this challenging tournament is scheduled against Norway on Thursday at 17:35 GMT.
