Fury Eyes September Clash with Joshua at Croke Park

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are in discussions to stage their highly anticipated heavyweight bout at Dublin's Croke Park in September. The iconic stadium, which seats 80,000 and is renowned as the home of Gaelic games, is being targeted as the venue for the fight. However, the event's confirmation hinges on Fury securing victory in his upcoming comeback fight and Joshua opting not to have a warm-up bout this summer.

Fury is set to face Russian contender Arslanbek Makhmudov in London this weekend. Meanwhile, Joshua has recently resumed training following injuries sustained in a car accident in Nigeria, which tragically claimed the lives of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

Fury's last fight was in December 2024, while Joshua's most recent bout was against Jake Paul last December. Should Joshua choose to engage in a warm-up fight before facing Fury, the event is likely to be scheduled later in the year and potentially held in the UK.

Croke Park CEO Highlights Potential for Katie Taylor Fight

Peter McKenna, chief executive of Croke Park stadium, spoke to about the possibility of the Fury-Joshua fight in Dublin and its implications for Irish boxing star Katie Taylor.

"The real hope is that we will get Tyson Fury here later on in the year. That would be such a world-billing event that we would be able to facilitate a Katie Taylor fight here,"

McKenna added,

"A lot of stars need to align. Katie's manager needs to agree, Katie's promoter needs to agree, Tyson Fury's promoter needs to agree.
"I am very confident that all three are coming to the sense that this is one of Ireland's greatest sporting athletes and it would be such a 'wow' to have her here and for her to finish her career here."

Fury's Future and Joshua's Preparations

Despite the anticipation, some experts, such as Wardley, have expressed skepticism about Fury reclaiming a world championship. Nevertheless, Fury has expressed his desire to face Joshua following his comeback fight.

The prospect of a super fight between the two British heavyweights has been discussed for some time, but negotiations have repeatedly stalled due to disagreements over purse splits and broadcasting rights.

The proposed Dublin event would be supported by Saudi Arabia-owned production company Sela and prominent promoter Turki Alalshikh, co-founder of Zuffa Boxing.

In an interview with on Wednesday, Fury stated his intention to fight Joshua next, though no definitive arrangements have been made.

Katie Taylor's Ambitions and Challenges

Katie Taylor, the Irish superstar and two-weight undisputed champion, has fought twice in Dublin but has yet to secure a bout at Croke Park. Security costs have been a significant obstacle. However, with the expected sell-out crowd for a Fury-Joshua fight, these costs would likely not pose a barrier if Taylor were to fight on the same card.

Taylor has publicly expressed her ambition to hold a retirement fight in Dublin, concluding her distinguished career on home soil.
