Dan Scarr Emphasizes Urgency for Wrexham's Remaining Matches

Defender Dan Scarr, who joined Wrexham from Plymouth Argyle in 2024, has stated that every remaining game for the Red Dragons is now a "must-win" as they strive to maintain their pursuit of a Championship play-off position.

Wrexham were unable to reduce the gap to the top six after a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew's on Sunday. This result leaves them four points behind the play-off places with only four matches left in the season.

"I think every game we go into now is a must-win and we have to take it with that attitude," Scarr said.

"There's no point stepping around it, we need to go and win games and we believe we can do that."

Current Standings and Upcoming Fixtures

According to Opta's predictor model, manager Phil Parkinson's side has a 12.10% chance of finishing the season in the top six. Wrexham will face Stoke City at Stok Cae Ras on Saturday at 15:00 BST. Stoke City have lost five consecutive away league games, presenting an opportunity for Wrexham to regain momentum in their play-off campaign.

Scarr Confident in Team's Quality Despite Challenges

Scarr remains optimistic about Wrexham's prospects despite some external doubts. He highlighted the quality within the squad and the belief among players that they can still secure a top six finish.

"We've got another four games to go, belief's still high and we've got a really good group," he said.

"We can just look at every game and feel like we've got nothing to lose, let's just go for it.

"Everyone's going to probably write us off now and say that we've got a little bit of bad form and stuff like that.

"But we know we're good enough. We've got some quality players, we can produce moments of brilliance, we just didn't do it today."

Scarr Returns to Starting Lineup

Scarr started at the centre of Wrexham's back three against Birmingham, replacing captain Dom Hyam, who was on the bench. This was Scarr's first league start since the dramatic 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers on 24 January.

While frustrated by his recent lack of playing time, Scarr acknowledged the intense competition for places within the squad.

"It's Wrexham, we sign good players in the windows, so you know you're going to be up against it [to play], but that's what's got us where we are today," he said.

"Everyone pushes for a place, everyone pushes each other on. It's good competition in the group and unfortunately I haven't played for a while, but I'd like to think I'm ready to step in when I can.

"I've had to wait my time to have a go. Coming in as a defender you want to do a little bit better than that scoreline shows. But it's good to be back and it was good to get a little run out."

Manager's Perspective on Team Selection

Manager Phil Parkinson explained the decision to start Scarr over Hyam, citing fatigue as a factor.

"I feel with Dom, he's played so much football recently.

Then we go to the international break and he played for Scotland where the others who went away didn't play in that midweek game.

I thought he just looked fatigued on Tuesday [against Southampton] but he's been brilliant for us.

He's a fantastic character, a great lad, but Scarry equally has been brilliant for us over the last couple of years and he deserved his chance today."
