Wolves Appoint Cesar Peixoto as Head Coach
Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced the appointment of Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach, signing him on a two-year contract.
The 46-year-old Portuguese manager joins Wolves from Gil Vicente, a club competing in Portugal's top division, the Primeira Liga. Peixoto replaces Rob Edwards, who was dismissed from his position last week.
Peixoto will take charge of a Wolves team preparing to compete in the Championship for the first time since 2018, following their relegation after finishing at the bottom of the Premier League in the previous season.
This role marks Peixoto's first managerial position outside Portugal. During the 2025-26 season, he led Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the Primeira Liga, a notable achievement for the club.
His tenure at Gil Vicente was also significant as it was the first time in his seven-year managerial career that he completed a full season with a single club.
Executive Chairman Comments on Appointment
Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi expressed confidence in Peixoto's appointment, highlighting the qualities that made him the preferred candidate.
"Throughout our discussions with him, it became clear very quickly that he possesses many of the qualities we believe are important for the future of this football club," Shi said.
"We wanted clear identity, strong leadership qualities and a real hunger to succeed. Cesar demonstrated all of those characteristics, but what impressed me most was his mentality, his work ethic and his willingness to embrace the challenge in front of him."
