Wales Eye Salt Lake City for 2026 World Cup Base
Craig Bellamy, who never played at a World Cup, aims to lead Wales to the 2026 tournament. If Wales qualify, Salt Lake City, Utah, is expected to be their training base.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW), Bellamy's employer, is negotiating to establish the national team's training base in Salt Lake City, home to Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake.
Anthony Pulis, assistant manager of Real Salt Lake and former Wales Under-21 international, has provided guidance to the FAW regarding options in the United States. He is also the son of former Stoke and West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis.
Wales' Road to the World Cup
The Welsh qualifying campaign resumes on Thursday, 26 March, when Wales hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina in a World Cup play-off semi-final.
If Wales win this match, they will face either Italy or Northern Ireland in Cardiff on Tuesday, 31 March, competing for a place in the World Cup finals.
Potential World Cup Fixtures
Should Wales qualify, their group stage matches would include:
- Against World Cup co-host Canada in Toronto on Friday, 12 June
- Against Switzerland in Los Angeles on Thursday, 18 June
- Against Qatar in Seattle on Wednesday, 24 June
It is noted that Mexico and the United States are also co-hosting the tournament.
