Vipotnik Commits Future to Swansea City
Championship leading scorer Zan Vipotnik has signed a new contract with Swansea City, extending his stay at the Welsh club until the summer of 2030. This extension reflects the club's recognition of his outstanding performance this season.
Before joining Swansea, Vipotnik played for Slovenian club Maribor and spent a year at Bordeaux in France. The Slovenia international has been in impressive form this season, netting 17 goals in 36 league appearances.
His previous contract was set to expire in 2028. The new agreement not only rewards his contributions but also strengthens Swansea's position against potential interest from rival clubs during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Progress and Performance
The 24-year-old's first season in English football (2024-25) was somewhat limited in impact following his transfer from Bordeaux. However, he has made significant strides this campaign, scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions. This marks a notable improvement compared to just seven goals in 44 games for Swansea last season.
"I am really enjoying my football here, the support I have from the coaching staff, my team-mates and supporters is incredible," Vipotnik said.
"I want to make sure we finish the season as strongly as possible, and I hope I can continue to help the team."
Vipotnik initially signed a four-year contract when he joined Swansea on a free transfer in August 2024, amid financial difficulties at Bordeaux. Early in the current season, there were uncertainties about his future at Swansea, with Liam Cullen favored in attack and then head coach Alan Sheehan actively pursuing the £6 million signing of Adam Idah before the 1 September transfer deadline.
Despite this, Vipotnik's strong start—scoring three goals in August—convinced Swansea to retain him amid interest from European clubs. This decision has proven beneficial, as he currently leads the Championship scoring charts ahead of Coventry City's Haji Wright.
Coach's Perspective
"Zan has enjoyed an excellent season and his goals have played a big part in the positive results we have enjoyed," said Swansea head coach Vitor Matos.
"This new contract is a deserved reward. We will look to make sure he and the team have a strong end to the season and help him to continue to develop as a player."
