Sporting Complete Remarkable Comeback Against Bodø/Glimt
Sporting delivered an extraordinary performance to defeat Bodø/Glimt 5-0 after extra time, securing a 5-3 aggregate win in their Champions League last-16 encounter.
After suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg in Norway, Sporting launched an immediate offensive. Their breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Gonçalo Inácio headed in a corner delivered by Francisco Trincão.
Bodø/Glimt came close to scoring before halftime, hitting the crossbar, but Sporting extended their lead in the 61st minute. Pedro Gonçalves capitalized on a cross from Luis Suárez to make it 2-0 on the night.
The tie was levelled in the 78th minute when Suárez converted a penalty awarded following a video assistant referee (VAR) review for a handball, bringing the aggregate score to 3-3.
In extra time, Sporting quickly took control. Within two minutes, Maxi Araújo scored the fourth goal. Substitute Rafael Nel then added a fifth goal during added time, sealing the victory and ending Bodø/Glimt’s impressive run in the competition.
The win ensures that the back-to-back Portuguese champions progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
