Carrick's Impact at Manchester United
Manchester United have secured 19 points from a possible 24 under the leadership of interim head coach Michael Carrick.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, has publicly commended Carrick for doing an "excellent job" since taking over the role, though he refrained from confirming whether Carrick would be appointed permanently.
Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, aged 44, assumed the interim head coach position following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January. Since his appointment, the team has experienced a notable improvement in performance.
Under Carrick's guidance, Manchester United have won six out of eight matches, accumulating more points during this period than any other Premier League club, including the current leaders Arsenal.
"He is doing an excellent job, yes, absolutely," Ratcliffe told Sky Sports News, marking his first public comments about Carrick since the interim coach's appointment.
Future Prospects and Appointment Considerations
The team's recent resurgence has sparked discussions about Carrick's potential for a permanent managerial role. However, Ratcliffe declined to comment on any long-term appointment decisions, stating:
"No, not going there."
As the league approaches its final stages, Manchester United sit third with nine games remaining, positioning themselves for Champions League qualification for the first time since finishing third in the 2022-23 season.
"Clearly we are thinking about that [Champions League qualification], but there are still seven or eight games to go, so still a while yet," Ratcliffe added.
Should Carrick successfully guide Manchester United into the Champions League, it would bolster his case for remaining in charge beyond the current season.
Club Management and Recent Coaching Changes
Ratcliffe and the club's board recognize the importance of making the right decision regarding the next permanent head coach appointment.
Previously, Ratcliffe extended Erik ten Hag's contract following Manchester United's FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in 2024. However, ten Hag was dismissed less than three months into the subsequent season.
Ruben Amorim was appointed as ten Hag's replacement despite the club finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
In October, Ratcliffe expressed his hope to provide Amorim with three years to prove his suitability for the role at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, Amorim was relieved of his duties in January after only 14 months in charge.
