Pitch Invasion Sparks Clash Between Celtic and Rangers Fans
Celtic and Rangers supporters were involved in a confrontation during a pitch invasion following an Old Firm match at Ibrox Stadium.
Initially, fans of the Parkhead team entered the pitch to celebrate their 4-2 victory on penalties.
However, tensions escalated when Rangers fans joined the altercation, resulting in flares being thrown. Police officers and stewards quickly intervened, creating a barricade to separate the two groups.
The disturbance was soon brought under control, with fans returning to their seats.
Significance of Fan Allocation at Ibrox
This match marked the first occasion since 2018 that Celtic supporters were granted the full Broomloan Stand allocation at Ibrox, after it had been limited to fewer than 1,000 seats.
Historically, approximately 7,500 Celtic fans occupied the stand during Old Firm derbies.
Since 2018, away fan allocations at both Ibrox and Celtic Park have varied between around 750 and zero, reflecting a series of reciprocal restrictions.
Official Response from the Scottish Football Association
A spokesperson for the Scottish Football Association issued a statement regarding the incident:
"The Scottish FA condemns the behaviour from supporters entering the field of play following today's Scottish Gas Scottish Cup Quarter-Final at Ibrox Stadium.
An investigation will be carried out immediately in line with the judicial panel protocol."
