Rodri Fined for Referee Comments

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been fined £80,000 following remarks he made about the referee after the Premier League match against Tottenham on 1 February ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Spain international, who joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in 2019, criticized referee Robert Jones, accusing him of lacking neutrality during the game.

The Football Association (FA) confirmed that Rodri admitted to a charge stating he "acted in an improper manner during a post-match media interview by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or match officials."

Rodri's frustration stemmed from the referee's decision to allow Dominic Solanke's goal to stand despite an apparent foul where Solanke seemed to kick through the leg of City defender Marc Guehi.

"I know we won too much and the people don't want us to win, but the referee has to be neutral," Rodri said after the game.
"It's not fair because we work so hard. When everything is finished, you are frustrated."
